If plaque is allowed to build up on the teeth it turns into tartar, or calculus. These areas then grow bacteria that eat away at the teeth. A build-up of calculus can also cause gum recession, periodontal disease, oral pain and eventually tooth loss. Halitosis, or more commonly bad breath, is caused by an accumulation of decomposed food, bacteria and mineral calculus. Unfortunately, the bacteria not only cause disease in the mouth – they can also affect other parts of the body, like the heart and kidneys. The most important thing to do is address dental disease as soon as it is detected, no matter how minor. Better yet, work hard to prevent it! “PREVENTION” is the best and the healthiest for your pooch.
